Postdoctoral Fellows & Scholars

Other Appointments

Postdoctoral appointments are managed through the BSD's Office of Academic Affairs.  Resources and support for postdocs within the Division is available through the BSD Postdoctoral Association.

We manage two main types of postdoctoral appointments.  Postdoctoral Scholars (PDSs) are Divisional appointments intended for postdoctoral training and are generally supported by restricted funds. PDS appointments are generally for a 12-month term. Each PDS will have a primary faculty sponsor who will be responsible for developing a mentoring program for the trainee with clearly established expectations and goals. Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) are Divisional appointments to formal postdoctoral training programs funded through training grants or fellowshipsPDF appointments are generally for a 12 month term. In both cases, postdocs go through annual reappointment up to a maximum of five postdoctoral training years (including postdoctoral training at another institution).  Those interested in applying for postdoctoral positions should consult directly with the faculty member with whom you would like to work.  Our highly competitive Chicago Fellows program funds several new postdoctoral positions per year.
